National League, Community Club of the Year 2007

That’s it, were off and running. All the touchline banter and after match enquiries can now start in earnest, two games in to the season already! It’s been a mixed start, but with the return of Richard Blakeway on Sunday and Loz Wildbore/Carl Hughes available again for selection we are approaching a full squad to choose from. ‘Tiger’ is recovering well and despite resting a niggling shoulder injury at the weekend Kev Eadie could also be back in the reckoning for a start.

It’s not just the first team squad that are getting fit, thanks to the Community Work and ‘Warburtons’ the local kids have been getting in on things!

KIDS GET HEALTHY THANKS TO ROVERS

Kids from Featherstone are getting to grips with healthy eating and staying fit and active, thanks to Study Rovers Learning Centre @ Featherstone Rovers’ healthy eating initiative sponsored by Warburtons.

The healthy programme, supported by Warburtons, the family bakers, combines a healthy eating session with a fitness and co-ordination workout that is delivered by James Binks and Craig Bower, Featherstone Rovers players and local mentors. More than 200 children from local schools will have taken part in the programme when it was completed in January 2008.  The schools involved were: All Saints Juniors and Infants, North Featherstone Juniors and Infants, Streethouse Juniors and Infants and St Thomas Junior.

James Binks and Craig Bower said: “It’s great to be part of our healthy eating programme and it certainly gets local youngsters thinking about what’s good for them. We help children understand the principles of healthy eating whilst encouraging them to take small steps to becoming fit and active."

Tom Sugden, Sales Manager at Warburtons, said: “This is a fantastic initiative that Featherstone Rovers Study Rovers Learning Centre, through Barbara and Doug Wilford, is doing.  It educates children in a fun yet informative way. We hope that these sessions will provide some food for thought and steer children in the direction of making healthy decisions.”

In between these kids and our first team players is a set of U21’s making strides towards regular first team appearances. The first friendly for the U21’s will take place on Thursday 28th February at Post Office Road when Dewsbury will be the visitors, kick off 7.30pm.

Over the next couple of weeks, volunteers permitting, the shop will be moving from the Tiny cupboard in the clubhouse back to what is currently the Study Rovers room next to the club office and adjacent to the main clubhouse entrance. The Study Rovers will therefore also be having a new home, which will be to the rear quarter of the lower clubhouse floor, currently part of the Gymnasium/Changing block. This move should hopefully make access to product that bit easier for you on match days and will also allow us to further expand on the product range we offer. In the short term shop opening hours will not change and we would ask where possible that purchases are made Wed & Sat 10-12 noon or on a Match Day from 2pm. Hopefully there will be little disruption during the change round but please be patient with us.

Sunday saw the introduction of the new parking prices, don’t forget that you can purchase a Car Park Season pass for 2008 at tremendous value from the club office, £20.

Tickets for all events are available now from the club office or via email, get in quick to avoid disappointment! info@featherstonerovers.com)
