National League, Community Club of the Year 2007

It would be easy to start bleating about
the ‘Magic’ of the Millennium weekend, in what is becoming a very controversial
topic in some quarters. It would be interesting to know what percentage of the
63,000 were the same people entering the ground twice and thus being counted
twice in this figure? How does this figure compare with the normal collective
attendance of a weekend of fixtures, is it expanding the game? There is then
the matter of ‘Local Derby’ fixtures being used to try and enhance
the crowd, surely the event is about encouraging the welsh population to join
in with the sport, wouldn’t they have preferred a more competitive set of
fixtures, I’m sure the Wigan and Castleford supporters would have! The
level of interest shown by the stadium owners to promote the weekend, only four
weeks in advance, tells another story…..and so it goes on.
Far more important issues are much closer
to home! Thursday is the fourth game of the season for our U21’s who are
looking to continue their unbeaten start to the season. In a month with only
one home fixture for the first team, a shared gate at that, the fixture comes
as a welcome occasion to watch some good rugby and raise the coffers. Keighley
will be our opposition on Thursday night, 7.30pm kick-off. Keighley have two
wins and just one defeat in their campaign so promise to make a tough contest
of things. What better way to spend a summer evening. The club shop will be
open from 6.30pm and of course the bar will be open for refreshments! There is
some real quality in the reserve side with a number of lads making strong cases
for extended contracts and a call up to the first team. Please give them your
support.
If you are unable to make this fixture, why
not make a point of watching the BARLA Final taking place this Saturday at 2.00pm.
