'Rumble at Rovers' Five Towns Tag Tournament for 2008 The Five Towns School Sport Co-ordinator Partnership held their sixth annual Tag Rugby Competition on Friday 11 th April and 18 th April 2008 at Featherstone Rovers' Chris Moyles Stadium .
Andy Prout, Chief Executive of Featherstone Rovers said, 'This prestigious RL Festival being held at the Rovers for the 3 rd year running reflects the tremendous work that the Rovers Development Officer, Kevin Hobbs is doing, and has done, in the surrounding community.' Year 5 and 6 girls and boys from across the 5 towns area of the Wakefield District competed at the Chris Moyles Stadium, Featherstone. The matches were officiated by young leaders from the secondary schools who had received training previous to this competition.
There were a total of 52 teams taking part over the 2 days. Kevin Hobbs, Rovers Development Officer and mine host for the festival said, 'The National Police Children's Charity, 'Child Victims of Crime', who supported the event, continue to be impressed with the festival and its organisation at the Chris Moyles Stadium. The festival was a great success; the 500+ children were enthusiastic and a credit to their respective schools and entered into the spirit of the festival wholeheartedly.' The final statement came from Paul Ogilvie, Partnership Development Manager, who said, ' Two great days were had by all and the organisers were very pleased with the success of the on-going partnership with Featherstone Rovers.' The results of the festival were: 11 th April Rumble at Rovers Cup Winners: St Josephs, Pontefract Runner-up: Knottingley CE School Fair Play Award : England Lane School, Knottingley 18 th April Rumble at Rovers Championship Winner: Castleford Park Juniors (Enter the next stage of the National Tournament - West Yorkshire ) Runners-up : Smawthorne Henry Moor School , Castleford (Enter West Yorkshire Youth Games at Leeds Met University)Fair Play Award : Akton Pastures, Castleford It is planned to invite all competitors who took part in the Five Towns' Tag Tournament to the Northern Rail Cup game against Salford on May 22nd where hopefully they will be introduced to the crowd at half time. |
